BA Communication and Media Arts
The Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Arts (BACMA) at the University of the Philippines Mindanao is a program that integrates strategic communication and media production. Formally reconfigured in 2018, BACMA evolved from a curriculum established in 1999 to better reflect modern interaction modes while remaining deeply grounded in Mindanao’s unique socioeconomic, cultural, and political realities. The program equips students with the principles, techniques, and management skills necessary for professional practice in print, audio-visual, and multimedia production. Simultaneously, the program nurtures socially conscious communicators who engage critically with the Mindanaoan context, preparing them to create media that is both technically sound and responsive to the region’s social realities. This commitment ensures that media practice is informed by regional research, empowering students to influence public discourse while maintaining an ethical focus on Mindanao’s progress.
Ultimately, BACMA provides a dedicated space for students to engage with the region’s complex environment through theory-informed and need-based communication strategies.
