ADMISSIONS GUIDELINES FOR TRANSFEREES AND SHIFTING STUDENTS

(BACMA Program)

This guideline establishes the standard procedures and requirements for students seeking to transfer or shift into the Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Arts (BACMA) program of the University of the Philippines Mindanao. The process ensures that applicants meet the academic qualifications and demonstrate adequate communication and media competencies aligned with the program’s expected learning outcomes.

General Academic Qualifications

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum requirements prior to application:

  1. A General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 2.0; and
     

  2. Completion of at least 33 academic units, excluding Physical Education (PE) and National Service Training Program (NSTP) courses.

Application Requirements

Applicants must prepare and submit the following:

​

  1. True Copy of Grades (TCG); and
     

  2. Letter of Intent addressed to the University Registrar.

All applications shall be initially submitted to the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) for preliminary evaluation and processing.

Screening Process

Initial Screening by the Office of the University Registrar (OUR)

​

  1. The OUR evaluates the completeness and eligibility of submitted credentials based on university-wide transfer requirements.
     

  2. Only applicants who meet the minimum institutional requirements shall be endorsed to the BACMA program for further evaluation.

BACMA Program Screening Process

​

Endorsed applicants shall undergo a program-level evaluation, which includes the following stages:

​

1. Portfolio Submission and Evaluation

​

Applicants are required to submit a portfolio of Communication and Media works, which may include but is not limited to:

​

  • Written outputs (e.g., essays, feature articles, scripts)

  • Audio-visual productions

  • Digital media projects

  • Other relevant communication outputs

​

The BACMA faculty shall evaluate the portfolio based on creativity, technical competence, communication effectiveness, and alignment with program competencies.

2. Interview

​

Qualified applicants shall undergo an interview conducted by the BACMA Program Coordinator to assess:

​

  • Motivation and intent for joining the program

  • Communication skills

  • Academic preparedness

  • Creative and critical thinking abilities

​​

​

3. Faculty Evaluation

​

The BACMA faculty shall collectively evaluate applicants based on:

​

  • Academic performance

  • Portfolio quality

  • Interview results

​

The evaluation shall determine the applicant’s suitability for admission into the program.

​

Notification of Results

​

​Applicants shall be officially notified of the outcome of their application through email by the BACMA Program Coordinator.

Final Admission Processing

Successful applicants endorsed by the BACMA program shall return to the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) for the final admission processing, including enrollment confirmation and completion of institutional requirements.
