The BA Communication and Media
Arts (BACMA) program

is anchored in the shared mission and vision of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, which upholds critical inquiry, ethical engagement, and social responsibility. Guided by these principles, BACMA fosters globally competent and culturally grounded communicators who are responsive to the Mindanaoan context. Together, the program and the College seek to develop reflective practitioners and socially conscious leaders committed to transformative communication, creative practice, and public service at the local, national, and global levels.

BACMA's Vision

The BA Communication and Media Arts program of the University of the Philippines Mindanao envisions a community of communication and media practitioners who are globally competent, ethically grounded, and culturally attuned guided by the ideals of honor, excellence, and public service. The program aspires to foster transformative communication that advances diversity, inclusion, and sustainable development serving Mindanao, the Philippines, and the world.

BACMA's Mission

To realize its vision to serve and inspire communities and excel in fostering transformative communication, the BA Communication and Media Arts program commits to produce graduates who:

  1. Possess a critical understanding of communication and media practices at local, national, and global levels;

  2. Apply interdisciplinary and culturally grounded approaches in designing communication interventions;

  3. Advance democratic participation, social justice, and nation-building through ethical, inclusive, and sustainable communication practices; and

  4. Contribute to the cultural and creative industries by integrating theory, practice, and research in communication and media arts.
